This man is sharpening his machete on a piece of wood. He is throwing sand on the wood and running the blade up and down for a sharp edge. To climb the coconut trees, he has a single circle of rope large enough to hold both his feet. He then hops up the tree landing on this rope 'step' that is still on his feet. Sorry the pictures don't show this more clearly. With the machete hanging over his back, this is truly a dangerous job!
